How To Play Five Card Draw

Five Card Draw Rules

Five Card Draw is a popular draw poker game where each player is dealt five cards face down.

Before any cards are dealt to the players, the two players to the immediate left of the dealer are required to post blind bets, the small blind and big blind respectively. The small blind is half the lower stake limit and the big blind is equal to the lower stake limit. The big blind is also the size of the minimum bet. For example in a $2/$4 game the small blind is $1 (half the lower stake) and the big blind is $2.

Blinds are used in poker games to get money into the pot which helps to force the betting. The blinds are considered live bets. The big blind is able to check, raise, call and fold.

Once the blinds are posted the cards are dealt to the players that are seated at the table. The cards are dealt face down to the players.

Then the first round of betting begins starting with the player to the left of the dealer. The players have the option of calling the bet, raising the bet or folding.

When the first round of betting has been completed players get to try and improve their hand by discarding unwanted cards and drawing up to five new cards. Of course, players can elect to keep all of their cards and not receive any new ones.

Following the draw, there is a second round of betting. Again, the players have the option of calling the bet, raising the bet or folding.

When the final round of betting is completed it is time for the showdown. At the showdown the cards are revealed and the player with the best hand wins the pot.

When playing five card draw at PDC Poker, the joker may be in use as a sort of wild card. If it is in use, the players will be alerted. The joker can be used as an ace, to complete a straight, a flush, or straight flush which is why it is not a completely wild card. If the joker is used to make a flush, it will be the highest card of the flush not present in the hand. Also, if the joker is in use, five aces is the best possible hand that you can get, four aces and a joker.
